Cosmetic Dentistry
While traditional dentistry focuses on oral hygiene and preventing,
diagnosing and treating oral disease, cosmetic dentistry focuses on
improving the appearance of a person's teeth, mouth and smile.
General Dentistry
Dentistry involves the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a wide
variety of conditions, disorders and diseases affecting the teeth,
gums and maxillofacial (associated with the jaw and face) region of the body.
Dental Implants
Dental implants are artificial tooth replacements that are used to
counter tooth loss. The procedure is categorized as a form of prosthetic
(artificial replacement) dentistry, though it also falls into the category
of cosmetic dentistry as well.
Dental Veneers
Dental veneers are custom-designed shells of tooth-like ceramic material
that, when applied over the surface of a tooth, can cover worn tooth enamel,
uneven tooth alignment or spacing and chips or cracks.
Invisalign
Invisalign (sometimes misspelled as Invisaline) clear tooth aligners are
one of the more popular alternatives for those who find the idea of
a mouthful of metal braces and brackets – though effective – too
unattractive to commit to. If you are a candidate for Invisalign
or other "invisible braces," you don't have to sacrifice your smile
while straightening your teeth.
Smile Makeover
A smile makeover is the process of improving the appearance of the
smile through one or more cosmetic dentistry procedures, such as
dental veneers, composite bonding, dental implants and teeth whitening.
Specialty Dentistry
Dentistry has nine specialty fields recognized by the American Dental
Association, each of which requires additional schooling beyond the
four years associated with DDS and DMD degrees.
